- "Do You Dream in Silver?"
- The Ultimate Silver Surfer (trade paperback and mass-market
paperback); Stan Lee,
editor; Boulevard Books (1995). You don't have to know anything about
the Silver Surfer or Marvel continuity in general to follow this
story, which mainly concerns a lonely girl watching television. So run
out and buy the book with confidence, Mr. and Mrs. Mainstream America.
Even non-fanboys will be able to appreciate its sensitivity and drama.
- "One for the Road"
- The Ultimate Super-Villains (trade paperback); Stan Lee, editor;
Boulevard Books (1996). I love this story, but then again, I would. In the
original version of this touching tale, the narrator was an alcoholic
drinking gin at a bar and the proprietor was a gay man. The powers-that-be
at Marvel nixed both the alcohol and homosexuality angles, so I did a
top-to-bottom rewrite that came out even longer (and in some
ways better) than the original.
